A cross-country ski area, kilometers of cross-country ski runs along the Lech or the surrounding forests or past fields along the Lech Valley,
Hour bus connection with the guest card for free. You can just go and go as far as you like. There are many possibilities for refreshments at the cross-country ski trail. In contrast to the cross-country ski runs in the Tannheimer Valley, there is hardly anyone on the trails. So a real secret tip for quiet skiing.
When we wanted to enter the cross-country ski track in Holzgau this morning, the track was snow-covered, but we did not leave the cross-country ski machine and took a very fresh cross-country ski trail.
At the former Tannenhof, now the Styrolerhof, in Walchen are signs with food and drink offerings on the trail. Last year was still closed here. On request, we learn that the Styrolerhof will be reopened in June 2016. It is a hotel with spa and swimming pool. In the inn of the Styrolerhof we were then entered.
Lateral valley communities
- From Steeg you reach the Kaisers side valley community with just 73 inhabitants.
- Via Vorderhornbach you can reach the valley to Hinterhornbach with its 93 inhabitants. A long lonely valley. There are two cross-country ski runs. The Panoramaloipe over 2,1 km and the Hinterhornbachloipe over 6,9 km.
- The third side valley town is Bschlabs / Boden also called Pfafflar. Population of 113 inhabitants. The place is located on the sunny slope of the Bschlabertal and is the sunniest place in the whole Lech Valley.
- To Grameis, the smallest community in Austria, one comes from Häselgehr. It is home to 53 inhabitants.
Cheese factory
But first stop. The cheese factory Sojer in Steeg is the only cheese factory in the Lech Valley. Behind the sales area there is the Milchtrinkstüberl. There is milk, butter, ice cream, yoghurt and of course a lot of varieties of cheese. Our favorites were the fresh cheese with herbs and the mountain cheese. But just as are the other cheeses or herbs.
