Haus Schulenburg

The house Schulenburg in Gera in the road of peace 10 is a jewel of the city. It was built and designed by Henry van de Velde for Gera industrialist Paul Schulenburg 1913/1914. Van de Felde deemed Bauhaus pioneer. Also Art Deco elements takes van de Velde in the house Schulenburg anticipates. The park and the Gewächshausbauten for large orchid collection of Paul Schulenburg, who lily pond and fountain cascades were built a few years later.

Paul Schulenburg had a dining room, which Henry van de Felde had designed purchased at the Dresden Arts and Crafts Exhibition in 1906. The current owners Rita and Volker Kielstein have it from 1996 lovingly restored after the turn and re-established. Some descendants of Paul Schulenburg gave former furniture from the house back.

Unfortunately, parts of the garden have been sold and built by a pitch. The remaining land has been prepared but largely again. The tea house and also the small garden house at the entrance are obtained.

Haus Schulenburg is also the seat of the “European Association of Friends Henry van de Velde e.V.”
